BEACH, Ruthmary

Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, 16 December 2025, aged 94 years. Much loved wife of Neville (deceased); mother of Peter (deceased) and Lisa (deceased), David, Andrew and Miriam Mary and David; grandmother of Lawrence, Nicholas and Freya, Sam, and Oliver and Harry; and great-grandmother of Jack and Liam. Hurdler, Latin teacher, embroidery entrepreneur, Ruthmary rushed at life with all rockets firing. Special thanks to the staff at Duncan Lodge who looked after Ruthmary in her final years.

My deepest sympathies to the Beach family. I met Ruthmary through Neville’s involvement with NZIIA, & we became friends through our love of handcraft. Her needlework was far superior to mine, but she encouraged me to try to do better. Her company was invigorating & I did miss our chats when I moved away from Wellington. Rest in Peace Ruthmary.

I was so very sad to just learn that Ruth-Mary left “this mortal coil” [Hamlet] – while we were away on our Christmas holiday. A card and letter have been put in the post today c/o Lychgate, expressing much more of my huge respect and appreciation of all Ruth-Mary did for Wellington Shakespeare Society, Shakespeare Globe Centre NZ, embroiderers everywhere, and me professionally and personally.
